As the cinematographer (DOP) on Aware, I strived to create engaging visuals to represent an important subject. With quality being a huge part of our project, my primary goal was to bring our cinematic vision to life whilst articulating our narrative to its full potential. Outside of my primary role, I was able to help shape Aware through Scriptwriting, set design, editing, and sound design.
Aware is a short film series that aims to grapple with the lack of representation in the media showing the uncomfortable realities of drug and alcohol use in Aotearoa. In collaboration with the New Zealand Drug Foundation, our project strives to create a fresh perspective on today’s drug and alcohol advertising. We aim to replace the age-old ‘just say no’ message with a new harm reduction ideology.
