As editor of Aware, it was a rewarding process growing this project into the final product, from draft scripts to polished pieces of work. Crafting these episodes into their respective narratives gave me a chance to stamp in my creative mark, which was an enjoyable challenge. Working with the NZ Drug Foundation, we created a project that will have real life impacts outside of our course.
Aware is a short film series that aims to grapple with the lack of representation in the media showing the uncomfortable realities of drug and alcohol use in Aotearoa. In collaboration with the New Zealand Drug Foundation, our project strives to create a fresh perspective on today’s drug and alcohol advertising. We aim to replace the age-old ‘just say no’ message with a new harm reduction ideology.
