Bachelor of Fine Arts
“Nina”, is a series of paintings about navigating motherhood in 2021. I have painted my daughter’s intense gaze which communicates more than her limited language allows. In these paintings the viewer inhabits my gaze blurring the line between what is public and what is intimate. Maternal imagery is burdened with historical clichés which glaze over the complexities of motherhood, the intense feelings of connectedness, separation, ambivalence, joy and fear.
