The symbolic qualities in images and materials attract my attention. Ubiquitous symbols and motifs are of two natures; a universal visual language that also often feels empty; cyclic overuse having diluted their meanings. This sentiment, indexed in contemporary art, speaks to visual obsessions or fads that resist the traditionally monumental and conceptual. The paintings, drawings and sculptures I make lean into these poetics; made of inexpensive materials, they are temporal, small and easily transportable.
