My project is based on the Samoan Patē (Samoan percussion). The original idea was to build the Samoan Patē. However, this idea changed. Because there are no island instruments on any music software, the idea is to create virtual samples of the Patē. I experimented with setting up various microphones and hitting the Patē drum either in the middle or on each side or by playing a beat using the Patē. I wanted to show what sounds I could best gather and where the best places were to position the microphones. The recordings contain at least twenty to thirty different Patē samples as single, double, and or rhythmic wav files and edited which will match the images from the recordings. I was nervous during the progress, because I have not had much practise or studio time, and am not too experienced was in some of the music softwares for recording and editing. The goal is to create a sample pack that is available as music assets via online channels.

This project means a lot, especially as this shows my identity as a Pacific Islander who is female studying Music Technology and wants to share with the community. Hence why I want to be the first female Pacific Islander female to be able to do what I’m doing.
