Terrain Vague: Close Encounters with the Vegetal is a series of sensory amplification instruments that penetrate the boundary fence of a vacant lot in Wellington City. This project explores terrains vagues – ambiguous spaces “that exist outside the cultural, social, and economic circuits of urban life” (Barron, 2014) – as temporary sanctuaries for biologically and ontologically diverse ecosystems. The instruments facilitate performative encounters that invite passers-by to experience the unseen lives of urban wildernesses.
