The rooms within the exhibition are thematic. Each space is designed to uniquely enhance the emotional experiences associated with the diary texts.
Visitors become performers when they enter each world of writing. The written content is intimately engaged with through audio recordings.
The existing exhibition space is transformed into a landscape of white cloth. Some narratives are covered to allow new narrative layers to be added.

The Katherine Mansfield House and Garden museum consists of period rooms that construct a narrative of the writer's time in the space. An interpretive redesign transforms the current mise-en-scene style exhibition into a multi-layered world of alternative narratives that extend beyond her childhood. 'Conversations with a friend' is constructed through diary entries and scenospheric design that enhance the emotional experience of Mansfield's writing.
