Generational hostility is a manifestation of an ever-increasing polarisation between the ages. The gulf between ‘us’ and ‘them’ allows ageist prejudices to develop and erodes opportunities for positive exchange. Staged on Wellington’s waterfront, ‘1000 Years’ presents a millennium's worth of collective lived experience carried within the voices of younger and older people. Highlighting the value of intergenerational conversations, this installation seeks to shift understandings of age and celebrate common ground.
