Many young creatives struggle to showcase their work to the world and constantly question whether they, or their art practices are “Good enough”. As the DOP on Newtown I wanted to capture this growing sense of internal pressure visually as well as showcasing the interesting environments that musicians tend to find themselves in. Shot in 5 separate locations with a full cast and crew, Newtown was a large challenge and huge success.

Newtown shines a light on the struggles young artists face when trying to break into a creative industry, exploring themes of seeking help, performance anxiety and self-sabotage in a thoughtful and, ultimately, uplifting way. Inspired by the music of New Zealand Artist GARDS, who provided the film’s original soundtrack, Newtown connects with younger audiences and anyone who’s ever put themselves out there for their art.
