I was inspired to write/direct this story after hearing an unreleased song titled: NEWTOWN, created by the artist GARDS,. As the two of us are brothers, we had the ability to collaborate together through our individual disciplines, with his music being integral to every stage of the films production. Newtown was made by struggling young artists, to help the very same people feel less isolated and helpless in the pursuit of their creative endeavours.

Newtown shines a light on the struggles young artists face when trying to break into a creative industry, exploring themes of seeking help, performance anxiety and self-sabotage in a thoughtful and, ultimately, uplifting way. Inspired by the music of New Zealand Artist GARDS, who provided the film’s original soundtrack, Newtown connects with younger audiences and anyone who’s ever put themselves out there for their art.
